Barn owls have a signature heart-shaped faces, bright white underparts and mottled golden-buff upper parts. Female Barn Owls are biggest than males, as most birds of prey are. Barn Owls can sometimes get confused with Short-Eared Owls while flying, however the short-eared owl have more complex patterns and yellow eyes unlike barn Owls.
Barn Owls can be found all across Great Britain and Ireland. Usually they are found in Farmland and open countryside.
Barn owls are distributed across Great Britain and Ireland. They live in open countryside and farmland, and can often be seen on roadside verges.
The Barn Owl population has recovered in previous years. The change in agricultural practises and the renovation of old buildings and barns could have been the reason behind their decline. Owl nesting boxes have helped with repopulating the species.
